RE: What are your best tips and tricks while camping?

ok i got one. before you leave the night before take 4 or 5 bottles of water and freeze them. when you hook your trailer up to the TV and plug the trailer in put the fridge so it runs off the car and put the frozen bottles in the fridge by the time you get to camp the fridge is nice and cold for the food.
"sorry fleetwood owners i dont think this will work for you" but it does in my jayco.
as for the comment about locking the door its not about security it is mainly about the security for the parents for the youngsters that are sleeping so they cant get out. not security.

RE: battery connections when stored

does the trailer not have a 30 amp in line fuse that kills all power from the battery to the trailer. Simple electrical here you have a set up like this.....
Positive battery terminal -> 30 amp inline fuse -> main lead to trailer.
if you pull that fuse you will not have any power going any where. why would you take your cover off the battery everytime you come home to disconnect when you can just pull a fuse?? as far as when the trailer is in storage aka winter or off season take the battery out and place a good automatic charger on battery so it shuts down and turns on as the battery needs it too. i might be wrong but thats what i do and thats what we do at the staion too.

RE: battery connections when stored

We have a inline 30 amp fuse that kills all power from the battery to trailer just a idea. I would hate to pull the cover off the battery everytime we get back from camping. I would put a inline fuse in.

RE: Sway Bar

YES YES and YES your towing with a jeep you need it. Dont want the trailer to sway without it. Could turn bad. Cheap insurance policy. The Jeep has a small wheel base even being a 4-door. Just my opinion.

RE: Gi-normous Ziploc Bags---Love them!

i tried the space bags and the top sealer broke off on them. we do however use the XXL zip bags for my 4 1/2 year olds clothes for storage. good idea for the camper i will try this thanks.

RE: How Much Does Typical Load Weigh?

im not sure about the question but i have a 08 jayco 1207 and the unloaded weight is 1900 lbs with all of our things in the trailer we are at 2600 lbs just to give you an idea. as far as the rav4 goes i would tow that much with it that is a small suv i would buy a v6 4runner. if you are getting 11mpg with a TT you will get a lot better with a pup i would guest at least 18mpg. we tow with a 02 Suzuki XL7 and i get 17mpg towing we dont think that is too bad. well good luck.

RE: PUP Security

ok maybe i didnt state my question right given the type of responses. having a alarm or lock on your door has nothing to do with people coming in the trailer. to be honest unless we are in bed the pup is never locked when we are at the site or away. i installed the barrel bolt lock so if my son gets up in the middle of the night and happens to be confused about where he is he cant get outside. he also is in the routine at home that he can get up in the middle of the night and go to the bathroom oviously he cant do that at a camp ground he will have to wake up mommy or daddy for that and i think everyone can agree about the worry about the standard lock being very easy to unlock. i do like the alarm idea but like stated in another post they are loud and the last thing i want to do at 3am is distrub my fellow campers. this post has nothing to do with camp ground safety and feeling that way. if i didnt have a young child i wouldnt have the latch. just making sure my question is coming out right. the way i see it is if you cant feel safe at a campground number 1 complain to the staff number 2 dont go back to that one period. most campgrounds are completly safe.

RE: PUP Security

IMHO some of us love to tent camp but dont want to be on the ground. Not to mention even those who have a hardshell TT, 5'er, and motorhomes all the doors are still set up basically the same as mine and I would imagine that those who have little ones would have a thought on there childeren getting outside at night. It could just be me but who knows.

PUP Security

What does everyone use to keep there camper secure at night? Is the door lock enough or more. We use the door lock and a barrel bolt latch at the top just for the extra piece of mind incase my 4 year gets up in the middle of the night and decides to take a walk. Oh my that wouldnt be good.

Does anyone else do this?

So we went camping for the week and it rained off and on. So of corse we put the pup away a little damp. We live in a townhouse so opening up to dry is also hard. So I got thinking what can I do to take the mostiure out of my camper??? Then it came to me. Put a damp rid bag in camper and see what happens. Wouldnt you know it it is taking the moisture out of the camper. Just thought I would sure this with others who may not be able to open there trailer easily when they get home.
Happy Camping.
